Exit Devices and Panic Bars

EXIT DEVICES or PANIC BARS are door mounted security and safety devices which will allow free egress at all times while still maintaining control of ingress.

There are 3 types of Exit Devices/Panic Bars:

  • RIM EXIT DEVICES are surface mounted exit devices which are usually mounted on the surface of the secured side of a door
  • MORTISE EXIT DEVICES are those exit devices whose locking mechanism is mounted or mortised into the door
  • SURFACE or CONCEALED VERTICAL ROD EXIT DEVICES contain vertical rods that come off the exit device and add additional latching at the tops and or bottoms of doors
